Provided direction for all matters related to EvergreenHealth Monroe and system oversight for Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging service lines.  Created a Community Advisors program to assist in strategic planning for hospital.  Reported to two boards and CEO; locally elected PHD board and appointed joint operating board.

EvergreenHealth is an integrated healthcare system consisting of two public hospital districts, 13 primary care centers, and five urgent care locations.

Key Contributions

  • Reduced patient complaints by 40%, improved patient satisfaction from 54% to 60%, increased recovery center admissions by 30%, and increased total operating revenue per FTE by over 5% for EvergreenHealth Monroe, resulting from successful integration efforts between Kirkland and Monroe.

  • Oversaw transition from regionally provided laboratory services to LabCorp.

  • Increased market share capture in the Snohomish County service area by over 5% and increased days cash in Monroe from two to 39 in less than two years.

Reported to the Board and provided direction and guidance for all matters related to the leadership and operations of the Hospital District.  Healthcare leader designated to the board for the Cascade Pacific Action Alliance ACH to convene, advise and implement a regional pilot project to support the Washington State innovation plan.

Summit Pacific Medical Center is a Public Hospital District licensed for 24 beds, consisting of acute care hospital, level IV trauma center, full-spectrum outpatient services, and three rural health clinics.  Gross revenue of $60M.

Key contributions

  • Led successful turnaround from operating loss of $880K in 2007 to Modern Healthcare’s 13th most profitable Critical Access Hospital in the nation in 2009, with a 17% operating margin and operating income of $1.5M.

  • Significantly increased gross patient revenue from $6.6M to $60M.

  • Achieved EBIDTA of 7% in 2013 with the opening of a new hospital and $800K of startup expense.
